In this Grasshopper tutorial, you will learn how to create a Geodesic Sphere with the glass panels and its structure using Grasshopper. A Geodesic Sphere is a spherical thin-shell structure (lattice-shell) based on a geodesic polyhedron. The video is divided into several parts where you can see how each individual facade segment is generated. We will also reveal a few tricks from LunchBox and Weaverbird plugin.
The first step includes making triangular elements for the sphere that will represent glass panels. In this process, we will involve a few components from the LunchBox plugin (Platonic Icosahedron and Subdivide Triangle) that we will use to project on the Surface to create lines. In the next step, we will use these lines to convert Lines into Closed Brep and create glass panels. In that step, we will insert several components from the Weaverbird plugin.
In the next phase, we will demonstrate how to convert triangular lines into 3D elements that distribute the structural stress throughout the structure and how to make a connection with the glass panels. As in the previous step, we will combine several Weaverbird Plugin components that allow us to give a thickness to the mesh that is previously generated.
